Copying and Generating papers

I think we all can agree that plagiarism (copying someone else’s work and taking credit for it) is wrong. But what about papers that are generated by programs like Chat-GPT or other artificial intelligence (AI) sources? Increasingly, some students are yielding to the temptation to “write” a paper in a matter of seconds by having a friendly bot do the work for them. Our advice? Don’t do it! It’s cheating. And generated papers bear certain tell-tale elements that our wise coaches pick up on. Generated or plagiarized papers will receive a grade of ZERO. Please consider having this conversation with your child before they make the mistake of having someone else, even a non-human program, do the work for them. You’re paying us to coach them to become better writers, and it does no one any good if we are leaving comments on a paper written by a computer program. With a little bit of effort, all students will grow in both confidence and competence. We will meet them at their current level of ability and instruct, challenge, and encourage them to improve.
