English 11 combines High School Writing 3 and Self-Paced High School American Literature into a single enrollment, giving your 11th grade student a complete English education. Your student will work with a dedicated writing coach on all their writing assignments and progress through self-paced American literature at a manageable pace, all for one convenient price.

Is English 11 Right for Your Family?

Many parents find the combined English model—where literature and writing are part of the same course—appealing for its efficiency and coherence. English 11 offers that. Because literature is self-paced and the writing instruction is asynchronous, you student can complete their work anytime during the week that fits their schedule.

A few practical advantages:

  • Two courses, one enrollment, one transcript entry. English 11 appears on your student’s transcript as a single annual course.

  • Significant savings compared to enrolling in each course individually.

  • Writing and literature support and reinforce each other throughout the year.

How It Works

Writing (High School Writing 3) is coach-supported and covers all four major writing modes in the first semester, with a focus on research papers and formal persuasive essays in the second. Your student will develop MLA citation skills, structured argumentation, and timed essay writing.

Literature (Self-Paced High School American Literature) surveys American literature from colonial poetry and founding-era writings through Twain, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Baldwin, and contemporary voices through recorded video lectures and auto-graded quizzes. Your student will work through course content at their own pace. Note: There is no WriteAtHome teacher support for the literature portion of English 11.

Student Expectations

  • Complete weekly writing lessons and submit assignments on time.

  • Respond to coach feedback through revision and proofreading.

  • Keep up with the reading schedule and complete reading comprehension quizzes.
