Your student has something worth saying. Our job is to help them say it well.
WriteAtHome has supported Mat-Su Central School students, teachers, and parents for almost 20 years. The writing courses your students have enjoyed for years are still here, and we're excited to announce some new options too.
WriteAtHome has designed complete English courses exclusively for Mat-Su Central School students. These asynchronous, online English courses include personal writing coaching and self-paced literature merged into one structured course.
We’ve also added a Beginner Writing Workshop designed for younger learners (starting as early as grade three).
NEW! English Courses
Grades 6 - 12: A full English pathway from middle school through graduation.
$678 per year
Personal writing coaching. Your student will learn about writing and write an assignment every week, and a real person reads every paper, gets to know your student, and provides detailed, encouraging feedback every time. Not a checklist. Not an algorithm. Not a bot. A coach.
Self-paced literature with video lectures and auto-graded quizzes. Your student works through the reading independently, with built-in comprehension checks along the way. No extra grading on your end. (Note: There is no teacher support from WriteAtHome on the literature portion of the course.)
Due dates that keep everyone on track. Writing and literature are merged into one course syllabus, so your student always knows what's expected and when.
Flexible. Because our English courses are asynchronous, your student can do their assignments any time during the week that fits their schedule. There are no live class sessions to attend. Writing lessons and literature lecture videos are accessed from your student’s Canvas dashboard and are available one week before they are due.

English Courses FAQ’s
-
Each course includes a full year of writing instruction with a personal writing coach, plus a self-paced literature component with video lectures and auto-graded comprehension quizzes.
Writing and literature are merged into one structured course with due dates throughout the year, so your student always knows what to work on and when.
-
In the past, writing and literature were separate courses you enrolled in independently.
These new English courses combine writing courses and self-paced literature into a single course.
The writing coaching works exactly the same way you're used to. A real person reads every writing assignment and provides detailed feedback.
The literature part of the course does not include WriteAtHome teacher support. Each week students have a reading assignment, a lecture video to watch, and an auto-graded comprehension quiz.
-
Yes. These courses were designed by Mat-Su Central School specifically for their students and count as a full English credit. If you have questions about how this applies to your student's transcript, reach out to your Mat-Su Central School teacher.
-
Your student's writing coach reads every writing assignment they submit and provides feedback that encourages, corrects, connects, and summarizes. They get to know your student over the course of the year and focus on improvement.
Writing coaches do no provide support or instruction for the literature portion of the course.
-
The literature portion is self-paced with built-in due dates to keep your student on track. Students read independently, watch lecture vidoes, and complete auto-graded comprehension quizzes. There is no teacher for the literature component; it is designed for students to work through on their own.
-
Plan on roughly four hours per week for the literature portion.
Writing varies depending on the assignment and what draft they’re working on. Most students spend 30 minutes to two hours per week on writing.
-
Life happens, and we get that. There are no penalties for late work. If a writing assignment hasn't been turned in yet, you will see a temporary zero as a placeholder. That goes away as soon as the work is submitted.
NEW! Beginner Writing Workshop
Grades 3 and Up
$199 per 8-Week Workshop
Every writer starts somewhere. This workshop gives younger students a low-pressure, encouraging place to begin.
Over eight weeks, students in Grade 3 and up will learn the building blocks of good writing — how to organize their ideas, find their voice, and put words on the page with confidence. A personal writing coach reads every assignment and provides warm, specific feedback designed to build skills and keep students motivated.
This workshop is a natural first step for students who will go on to WriteAtHome's full literature and writing courses and a great fit for any young writer who's just getting started.

Yes. WriteAtHome is an online course that uses Canvas as our Learning Management System. Our writing coaches need papers submitted as PDFs or documents in order to provide feedback.
If your student can’t type, you’re welcome to type their work for them. But we cannot accept scanned versions of handwritten assignments.
-
Because WriteAtHome is tutorial in nature, we meet students where they are and coach them toward improvement. If your student can write a basic sentence and can follow directions, they’re probably ready.
-
Our writing coaches provide feedback right on the student papers. Click HERE to learn more about how our writing courses work. There’s an example of coach feedback on this page, too.
