Language Arts for 4th graders meets once per week for an hour over Zoom. Each session includes discussion of assigned texts and direct instruction in reading and writing. After class, students complete weekly assignments in grammar, reading, and writing.
Students read a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, with a focus on novel studies.
Writing assignments include short responses, persuasive essays, a book review, an ode, an adventure story, and an original fairy tale.
Grammar study is completed independently through short lessons and quizzes. Topics include complete and detailed sentences, root studies, parts of speech, and punctuation rules.
The course is designed for average 4th grade learners, but includes personalized teacher feedback to support and challenge students at all levels. Weekly work averages 30-60 minutes, 3-4 days per week. Observer involvement in reviewing teacher feedback and assisting student pacing is highly encouraged.
All Zoom sessions are recorded and available for viewing.
