WriteAtHome for Step Up For Students

A personal writing coach for every student.

Supporting families since 2001  ·  2026–27 School Year  ·  Available through your Step Up For Students EMA funds

Writing is one of the most important skills your child will ever develop, and one of the hardest to teach at home. WriteAtHome pairs your student with a personal writing coach who reads their work, gives real feedback, and helps them believe they have something worth saying. Not an algorithm. Not a bot. A person.

Your Step Up For Students EMA funds can pay for writing courses, literature, history, and English classes for grades 3–12. Browse by grade level below, then use the enrollment form to let us know what you've chosen.

Our annual literature, history, and elementary ELA courses are also available to purchase one semester at a time, to accommodate when funding is available. These courses can still be purchased for the full year.

How to Use Your EMA Funds

  1. Browse courses by grade level below, and find the courses you want for your student.
  2. Submit the enrollment information form below. NOTE: Submitting this form does not enroll your student. It provides us the information necessary to complete enrollment once we receive payment approval from Step Up For Students.
  3. Log in to your Step Up For Students EMA account and find WriteAtHome in the provider search. (Be sure to spell WriteAtHome as one word, not three.)
  4. Select your course(s). See the yellow box below for helpful tips.
  5. Once WriteAtHome receives confirmation of your purchase, your student will be enrolled and you'll receive a confirmation email.
To find your course more easily, sort by Schedule and Price. There's no way to sort by class title or grade level in the EMA portal, but sorting by Schedule and Price will help narrow down the list.
