Nicole De Coux-Manners, a California native, graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 2001. She has spent much of her life immersed in words and has no plans to change. Throughout her life she has worn multiple hats – from Feature Page Editor of her high school newspaper to homeschooling mother to business owner. Sharing her enjoyment of the English language with young people is one of her greatest delights. Her favorite book is Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne…in addition to the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien, Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn, and … well, whose silly idea was it to choose just one, anyway?
Since 2014, she has taught writing and literature in local homeschool co-ops. She is an accredited instructor with the Institute for Excellence in Writing and the owner of Manners Writing Services, which offers tutoring and homeschool writing classes for local charter schools. Having home educated her two children for over a decade, she considers it an honor that they both love to read and discuss great literature. Her oldest daughter has graduated and is currently attending community college to pursue an English degree.
Nicole lives with her family in Orangevale, California, a small burg a stone’s throw from Folsom – yes, the Folsom of Johnny Cash fame. When not reading, writing, or enjoying family time, she enjoys kayaking the American River and learning about local history. She has two dreams…to finally finish writing that novel, and to travel back to the UK as her own tour guide. This time, however, she will stand by Dickens’ tomb for as long as she wishes in Westminster Abbey. Last time, the tour guide made her leave.
