About This Course
A-G English 12 is WriteAtHome's comprehensive twelfth-grade English course, combining British literature and writing instruction in a single enrollment that appears as one English credit on transcripts. Your student surveys British literature from the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf through Arthurian legend, Shakespeare, Romantic poetry, Victorian novels, and a 20th century dystopian classic, while developing college-preparatory writing skills through weekly assignments reviewed by a dedicated writing coach.
Literature instruction is delivered through weekly live online classes with an experienced teacher. Writing assignments are submitted online and returned with detailed, personalized feedback from a trained writing coach, not auto-grading. Your student works at a consistent pace throughout the school year, building skills in literary analysis, research writing, and formal essay writing.

Writing Instruction
The writing component of A-G English 12 is a thirty-two week college-preparatory writing course. The first semester covers all four major modes of writing: narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive. The second semester focuses on the two kinds of writing most important at the college level: research papers and formal literary essays.
Your student works through a full writing process for most assignments: prewriting, drafting, revising with coach feedback, proofreading, and a final draft. Lessons address the principles that make writing work: content, structure, word choice, style, and mechanics. Your student also practices writing under time constraints, learns to cite sources correctly according to MLA standards, and develops the ability to analyze a work of literature and communicate an opinion in a formal literary essay. By the end of the year, your student is able to respond to feedback on their writing through revising and proofreading, apply grammar and mechanics rules in context, and show consistent improvement across content, style, and form.
Assignments and Assessment
WriteAtHome grades reading quizzes, discussion posts, writing assignments, and the creative project. The oral presentation and collaborative project assignments are provided with rubrics for parents or charter school teachers to evaluate.

Instructors
Your student is also assigned a dedicated WriteAtHome writing coach who reviews all writing assignments and provides directive, personalized feedback. Writing coaches are trained and supervised by WriteAtHome's VP of Coaching and Care.
