Tonja Cox has been teaching exclusively online for almost 15 years. She teaches for three online universities, as well as being a writing coach for Write at Home.
Tonja taught high school for a few years before going on to teach freshman composition at Missouri State while working for the OzarksWatch Magazine there. She has a strong journalism background, having served as news editor, then Editor in Chief, of the Campus Ledger at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, where she received a Journalist of the Year award in 1991 for investigative journalism. She then worked for a variety of newspapers for several years after that. I love writing, and teaching writing.
Tonja is a native of Northwest Arkansas, and lives on the beautiful Bull Shoals Lake. She has three children, ages 39, 35, and 30. Now that they are grown and gone, she has new babies, (five cats) who are really the new bosses in the family, Loki and Smokey, two feral kittens I rescued and tamed. Smudge is another rescue cat that Tonja took in at five weeks after her mother died. She is solid black except for one tiny smudge of white on a back paw. She also have a 25-lb black cat named Marley that she rescued from a shelter. The most recent cat is the most lovable. His name is Ozzy Pawsborne, and he is a big blue cat who loves to be held, cuddled, and get belly rubs. He joined the other babies, a Toy Chihuahua named Oreo, and a very lovable five-year-old Blue Heeler named Kyra.
Tonja also has three wonderful granddaughters, and one grandson.
Having a very strong literature background, Tonja is an avid reader of a wide variety of both classic and popular literature. Her favorite book will always be Gone With The Wind, but she admits to a passion for Stephen King, Anne McCaffrey, Piers Anthony, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Goodkind, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb, Robert Jordan, and Terry Brooks novels, as well as an abiding love of Shakespeare, the classics, and Harry Potter! ------
She also admits to an obsession for collecting both new and vintage Pez dispensers, and has a collection of more than 3,000!
